You are here: life - B'nei Mitzvah

B’nei Mitzvah at NNLS

Since we have the privilege of nearly 50 of our members’ children in every school year, you can imagine that Bar and Bat Mitvah is a frequent occurrence at NNLS.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Jewish life and learning.

There are many facets to this opportunity. Through our Haderech programme, our young people learn key skills they need to become confident and competent Jewish adults, as well, of course, as all the skills they require for the ceremony itself. Parents are encouraged to study with, and alongside, their children. Families can use this important milestone to explore their own Jewish history across three or more generations and discuss what their Jewish identity means to them.

Families have the choice of celebrating their Bar or Bat Mitzvah in either the Traditional or the traditional-egalitarian Hakol Olin services. Whilst most B’nei Mitzvah take place on Shabbat mornings, we do also occasionally celebrate them within a Shabbat Mincha (afternoon) service.
